Illustration Friday #006: Perspective

Illustration Friday #006: Perspective, originally uploaded by Alé Mercado.

This week’s word was perspective. Not sure why but that terrible western by Sam Raimi came to mind.

Although I am using my usual scraperboard effect for this illustration, I’ve actually changed the approach to how it is done from what I’ve learned in the last couple of weeks (see previous posts.) The image was built as if it was a three-plate linocut, applying reduction method in one of those plates eight times. The result is like a 10-colour screenprint with the sharpness of a linocut and all digital… I’d love to transfer this to real plates if I had the time. Really exciting stuff.

Am I too gory? I love the rib bits sticking out. Whoever was standing behind got shrapnel as well as mush.
