Tomi Ungerer

Illustrators Ireland has a new show in memory of its honorary member Tomi Ungerer. If you don’t know Tomi, I urge you to watch the documentary “Far Out Is Not Far Enough”. It tells his story from his infancy, to his beginnings as an illustrator in the “Mad Men” advertising agencies of Manhattan, his activism and his wonderful books.

His influence is immense. Not only with illustrators but with the general public worldwide. Irrepressibly irreverent, his stories were full of intelligence and compassion. Some of the best values you can have when you decide to dedicate your life to pointing out what’s wrong with the world and try to raise uncomfortable questions.

I made this piece to honour his work ethics, based in my favourite book of his: Mr. Racine’s Beast (I also urge you to give it a read)

The exhibition features the work of more than 50 members of Illustrators Ireland. Each one of us picked our favourite work from Tomi and made our own representation of it.

The show will be open till the 30th of September so make sure to check it out.
